How To Reinvent Yourself When Trying To Get Back Into The Workforce
To reinvent yourself while trying to get back into the workforce is not easy. However, it can be done with the right mindset and dedication. So, what can you do to further this mission of yours?
Think about your direction – You need to know about where you want to go and what are you reaching for. To get an idea about this, you need to look back at your past and the skills you have. Play to your strengths by reflecting on your skills and abilities and see what potential areas you could apply these too.
Manageable steps – Do not try to do too much too soon otherwise you feel overwhelmed, which may give your efforts a setback. Instead, start small. For example, try reading blogs of people who are from the industries you want to go into. Get an idea about what is expected and pickup useful tips which could help in your job search. Another idea is by going to a reinvention mentor or getting In contact with people who have also reinvented themselves. Continue in this manner and you will get there.
Visual reminders – Surround yourself with visual reminders of the life you want to create for yourself and the job you want. This will help you remain motivated while you reinvent yourself plus look for a job. These visual cues will be positive reinforcement. Whenever you are down and about, just look at them for inspiration.
Workable tasks – So, now that you have an idea about the future, break it up into workable tasks to achieve it. First and foremost is to remain positive throughout the job search. Other tasks could be to connect with people on LinkedIn, who could help you, take a course to develop your skills, read a few pages of a motivational or learning book and so on. Be specific and then stick to the schedule.
Associate with the right people – The thing that will help you the most is making contact with the right people. As mentioned before, get in touch with the individuals who have reinvented themselves for the better. Ask them for tips. Next, reach out to your associates especially on LinkedIn. Ask them for recommendations and a request to refer you to a recruiter. You cannot do this alone and need all the help you can get.
